As of 2016 HomeAway (one of the booking websites we are listed on) has decided to add a traveler’s fee of as much as 6% to the cost of your stay!
These fees will likely increase over time, as seen with other similar sites that charge as much as 15%. HomeAway was acquired by Expedia and now they are after as much revenue as they can in order to maximize their return on investment.
This is not money charged by us the homeowners or our property management company, Beach Rentals.
This added 6% fee is simply an add on that HomeAway is charging you — in addition to the huge advertising fees they charge us the owners community for your vacation rental booking.
We highly recommend that if you want to rent a great holiday home, you do so directly with the owner. Most homeowners (all the good ones) have their own websites and if you book directly with them you will save a lot of money.
Important Tip for Your Vacation Rental Booking
Always book directly with the owner.
If you contact an owner via Homeaway you will have to pay the added fee because the owners cannot take your booking directly once you have started the inquiry process with HomeAway.
Companies such as HomeAway, Airbnb, and TripAdvisor have all indicated that they will be increasing travelers costs in the future. That’s a lot of your vacation budget that could be better spend on you and your family.
How to Directly Make a Vacation Rental Booking
You may find that searching the advertising sites makes it easy for you to select the perfect holiday home for you and your family. Once you have made the discovery of that perfect home Follow these steps to locate the owner or property manager:
- Run an internet search for their contact information. Many reputable owners have their own website. They also frequently have social media accounts. You can find ours here: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.
