On Understanding the State of the Vacation Rental Market in 2017-2018

vacation rental market,

Becoming a Leader in the Vacation Rental Market

Four years ago I became owner of  Sea Ranch Abalone Bay Vacation Rental. As an owner, I wanted to learn how to be a more responsive host to you, our guests. So I jumped head long into deepening my understanding of the vacation rental market.

Follow Great Examples

I quickly learned there was so much more to know. I began following and taking note from the experts in the vacation rental market. These wonderful leaders and contributors to our emerging industry included Matt Landau, David Angotti Terry Whyte. Rick Oster Nancy McAleer Andrew Pearson and Amy Ashcroft Greener to name just a few.

Read the Research

I also became an avid reader of new vacation rental market research designed to guide our field. One such study recently published by Phocuswright observed that the U.S. private accommodation market would reach $36.6B by 2018. They stated that, “In 2016, private accommodation grew 11%, nearly twice as fast as the total U.S. travel market. While growth is expected to slow, the segment will continue to outpace the overall market through 2017.”

Participate in the Discussion

These changes are no little thing in our market.  Because of that, Christine Saba brought together a diverse selection of voices that represented a variety of stakeholders in her article,  STATE OF VACATION RENTALS 2017. They were asked to respond to these sweeping changes occurring within the U.S. short term rental/private accommodations market highlighted in the Phocuswright study. These voices included market experts, vacation rental owners, property managers, and related software developers.

It was a humbling honor to have my voice also included as one of those experts in the vacation and short term rental ecosystem.

But there seems to be one more voice we needed to hear from~ YOURS!

How Will the 2017-2018 State of Vacation Rentals Affect You, the Vacationer?

It’s one thing to be affected as a business person by all the changes highlighted in the research. But these revelations could have significant repercussions for you too as you plan your upcoming vacations.  Especially critical will be how they will affect the manner in which you choose, shop, book your vacation rental, and much more. What will be going through your mind as you decide whether or not to book Sea Ranch Abalone Bay or any other vacation rental in The Sea Ranch/Mendonoma area?

In fact I  was so curious about how you, our guests might feel about the changes in the market, that I posted the question in my Facebook Page- Sea Ranch Vacation Life:

Now, I look forward to your thoughts and ideas about the changes you have seen in the vacation rental market.

What have you experienced? What do you think may be happening in the vacation rental market?

Let us know by posting your thoughts in the comments below. And don’t forget to join in the discussion on our Sea Ranch Vacation Life Facebook page too!
