All things must end, as Nelly Furtado sings, even good vacations.
Tips to Help Avoid the End-of-Vacation Blues
I’m certain if asked, Nelly will tell you she also doesn’t like the reality of good vacations ending much either.
But not to worry that summer’s end is here!
We have tips to make your departure from Abalone Bay less depressing and the prep for your return back home quick and easy.
Set a Calendar Reminder
Of course, we all want our good vacations to never end.
It’s so easy to lose track of time and days while on vacation. Yet we all know somewhere in the back of our heads the end will come.
It’s just much easier to avoid thinking about it or simply put it out of our mind completely.
And then ~
BAM!
There it is – the end of your lovely time hits you square between the eyes as you happen to glance up at the calendar.
Set an alarm for the second to the last day
Our recommendation is not only to set in your calendar a reminder of the first day of your vacation but also the second to the last day of your vacation. This way you give yourself a heads-up notice that the next day you’ll need to be packed and ready to leave by noon. It will also allow you to do some general cleaning prep of the house to make your departure less stressful and the likelihood of your cleaning deposit returned in full.
Wash and Pack the Night Before
By giving your self an early warning you allow yourself time before vacation’s end to wash any soiled clothing before packing.

This way when you arrive home all you need to do is take out your clean clothes and put them right back into their drawer.
Share Your Memories of Your Good Vacations
Set back and enjoy one last sip of wine as you share with your fellow vacationers all the grand experiences you had while on vacation. How did this one compare to the ones before? Good vacations deserve a retelling or two.
Who knows you may even be able to create a ballad about your adventures!
Then before you forget them, be sure to sign our guestbook and share those good vacation memories there.
Not only do we love reading what our guests have enjoyed, so do our guests who follow them. By sharing what you loved most about your stay in Abalone Bay you inspire others and alert them to what they should be on the lookout for while staying at The Sea Ranch.
Good Vacations Deserve Good Reviews
We aspire that you always have a 5-Star experience during your stay at our home. We pay close attention to each and every one of our reviews. Your reviews let us know that we accomplish our goals and that you appreciate our effort for making your dream vacation come true. It also assures us that we are on the right track to maintaining our status as a “Limited Edition Vacation Rental.”
Most importantly, it also informs us of what you love most about Abalone Bay.
We also appreciate the thoughtful critiques on what we can do better in our efforts for continuous improvement.
That is why we invite you to leave a review in not only our guestbook but also on the following internet review sites:

Book Your Return Visit Before You Check-Out
Now is the time to visit our Booking Calendar while you are wishing you never have to leave. We are honored that many of our first-time visitors become repeat guests, eager to return with their friends and family.
If you find our calendar is not yet opened don’t let that stop you from making your early plans. Contact us directly at Donna@SeaRanchAbaloneBay.com. We’ll be happy to keep your dates on file and inform you the moment that our calendar is reopened for booking. If by some quirk of fate you desired dates are unavailable, we’re happy to work with you in finding another time you can visit or recommend another location that we believe lives up to our standards of good vacations.
Tidy Up Before You Go
We realize you’ve been on the vacation of your dreams. But as you now realize, all good vacations must end. And when it does end our housekeepers must return to our home to prepare quickly for the next dream come true vacation of a lifetime.
Unlike hotels with daily maid service, our housekeepers must come in to make our home evidence free of your wonderful time no matter how long you stayed. To help them accomplish this task which they do remarkably well, we ask all our guests to follow the check-out procedures below.
If you found our house in tip-top shape, sparkling clean, and ready to go, we invite you to leave a tip for our housekeepers when you leave if you like.
Below is our list of check-out procedures to prepare you for your departure.
General Cleaning
Please leave the house as you found it. Put all household furnishings and other items back where you originally found them.
Replenish
Please replenish anything you used in the kitchen or first aid kit. Or you may write us a note and let us know that supplies need to be replenished.
Pets:
Even dogs love to experience good vacations!
To assure they do we ask you to clean up after your pet. This includes pet droppings that may have been left in the yard with the dog-poop bags we provide, vacuuming up excessive pet hair on floors and furnishings, and putting the pet bowls in the dishwasher to be washed. If time allows replacing them back in the doggie amenity basket would be gratefully appreciated.
Leave the dog mats out for laundry by our housekeepers.
Barbeque:
If you used the barbeque, we expect you to clean it when you are done.
Make sure the gas is turned off and the cover is closed too. Please leave a note or inform us if you used up all the gas.
Linens & Laundry:
No worries here – We will do your laundry! Now that will certainly make for Abalone Bay being added to you good vacations list.
You may leave the linens to be cleaned by housekeeping
Kitchen & Dishes:
Start a final load of dishes and cookware in the dishwasher. Wipe down all counters and appliances. We ask that you please wipe the butcher block counter with mineral oil to help prevent the wood from discoloring.

Please remove all perishable foods from the refrigerator. Either pack it home with you or toss it out.
Garbage:

Empty and take all garbage/trash/recycle containers, including bathroom trash bags to the in the trash storage area. Be certain the door is securely latched.
Turn Things Off:
Make sure the outside hose is turned off. Turn off all appliances, except the refrigerator. Turn off all ventilator fans and lower heat to 60 degrees.

Please lock all doors and close all windows. Please lower all shades in all the rooms.
Return the Keys and Let us Know of Problems
