Naturally, before you book Abalone Bay, you’ll want to know what Sea Ranch Events are occurring. This page will be updated as events in and near Sea Ranch are scheduled. Our guests receive more current and specific information in our Digital Sea Ranch Abalone Bay Guidebook. Events are varied. Many offer family fun and opportunities for exploring our wonderful coastal regions. Some are one-off special events while others are traditional and seasonal events.
First, review the highlighted events coming soon. Then, coordinate them with your upcoming Abalone Bay booking or use the list to make plans for your return to Sea Ranch Abalone Bay.

The Sea Ranch Lodge
Check out what’s on tap at The Sea Ranch Lodge with its new menu and art displays. The Lodge also hosts many other events including morning yoga, sewing circle, music and wine pairings. Announcements and changes in availability are posted on the board in front of the building, however not online. See the Lodge’s Community Page for reoccurring and special events.

SHINDIG SOCIAL CLUB: open noon to 9 pm on Friday & Saturday
Shindig is a pop up venue with a variety of menus (sandwiches/burgers) and various entertainment groups/individuals. It is located in the corner of the Verdant View shops in what used to be TwoFish Bakery location. The menu changes with each mini-event scheduled. Music is also frequenly offered

Celebrate Mother’s Day with CoastSing and their Mother’s Day Tea & Concert featuring Alma Llanera, Soul of a Plainswoman. Enjoy a selection of songs by American composers and arrangers, chosen by the singers themselves, as well as a special song dedicated to mothers, composed by the director, Sue Bohlin.

Annual Volunteer Fire Department Picnic Saturday event held on Memorial Day weekend,
An event held on Memorial Day weekend, the BBQ picnic will be held from noon to 3:00 p.m. at One-Eyed Jack’s. Profits from the picnic supplement funding from property tax and allow us to obtain additional equipment and training, to maintain the North Fire Station (the one on Highway 1), and other worthy items related to operating the VFD. All are invited to support with food donations and purchase of food and drinks tickets.

it is an “old-fashioned” picnic, a simple (but delicious!) menu of hamburgers, hot dogs, hot links, veggie burgers, slaw, beans, fruit, dessert, soft drinks, beer, or wine. There are games for the kids at 1:30 (sack races, water balloon toss, tug o’ war…), and a visit from SMOKEY BEAR for the young (and young-at-heart). The VFD and CAL FIRE staff and their fire engines will be there and you can ask questions about the department and see the equipment. This is the largest gathering of sea ranchers, friends, and visitors on the coast each year.

The Architectural Tour and Wine Tasting: date to be determined
This year’s Architectural Tour event will be held in the Fall. This will be more convenient for many of the architects and builders involved and will reduce some of the conflicts planners faced.
Monarch Butterfly Alert
It’s the time of year to watch for Monarch Butterflies as they migrate southward along our coast. The Ecology Subcommittee is interested in learning what plants they are nectaring on locally. If you spot one, simply snap a photo and post the picture and sighting information to iNaturalist.
And when back home- consider planting for the butterflies using our illustrated list of Monarch nectaring plants.

September – Labor Day Weekend
Equestrian Center Open House
Time:10:00 am to Noon
Location: Equestrian Center
Come join us at the Equestrian Center on Labor Day weekend for a couple of hours of horsey events! Snacks for visitors and carrots for the horses will be provided (the horses love all the attention). Bobbing for apples, horseshoes, and roping a “steer” are fun for adults and children alike. Stop by for riding demonstrations, equipment displays, and learn about horse breeds and their care. We, the horse owners, look forward to sharing our horse friends with you, your kids, and grandkids! Hope to see you there!
Point Arena Fisherman’s Festival
Point Arena Fisherman’s Festival on Labor Day Weekend offers items for sale at vendor booths at Point Arena Fisherman’s Festival for improvement and up keep of the Point Arena Pier and Cove.
Circumambulation:
Hike with friends, family and others along the entire expanse of The Sea Ranch!
Every year since 1997, the Trails Committee has sponsored this unique event for TSR members and guests. The Circumambulation is always held on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend.
October 2024
Hot Spot Closed for Winter
The Hot Spot will be closing for the season In October. This is an annual occurrence due to flooding and road washout during the rainy winter months. Please contact the Association Office if you have questions or require vehicle access during the closure. Reopening is anticipated in May.
November 2024
Sea Ranch Turkey Trot- Runners and volunteers invited to participate

Festival of Trees at Gualala Arts
Festival of Trees at Gualala Arts Friday and Saturday is the place to
go: local artists selling their wares, the quilt guild with their usual
assortment of handmade items, baked goods, and See’s Candy.
Hours are 10 AM to 4 PM both days.

Western Monarch Count
The official search for monarch butterflies overwintering (as they did historically at TSR) occurs December 23 to January 7. Please report any monarchs seen now as we will search for their roost. Do report to iNaturalist but also please email Diane Hichwa (tsrbirdlady@gmail.com) so we can check ASAP and report to the Xerces Society.
Traditional Holiday Musical Events occur at The Sea Ranch.
Christmas Caroling and Holiday Musical Events in the Knipp and Stengel (White) Barn. Bring friends, neighbors, and families. Lots of fun, and cookies & hot cider will be served.
Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at the Gualala Arts Center – Learn more hereTraditionally on Christmas Eve from 5 to 6 pm there will be a Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at the Gualala Arts Center. During this annual community event, the audience joins in singing the nine carols, all old favorites familiar to many. Interspersed with the carols, readers share Bible passages that tell the Christmas story.

Almost Fringe Festival
Almost Fringe is an art and cultural festival celebrating the fringe, weird, and wonderful of Mendocino county and beyond. Come out and celebrate our local arts culture with us!
