The Sea Ranch: An Environmentally-Planned Community on the Sonoma Coast
We’re especially pleased to share this one from KCET that includes our friend Marg Lindgren of Unbeaten Path Hiking Tours. In speaking about the ethos of the Sea Ranch Marg says, “It’s really about working with nature and not against it,”
The video tells of our environmentally-planned private community that stretches 10-miles along the Sonoma Coast. Our small community is renowned for it’s unique architecture and for being the first development to fully embrace the concept of “living lightly on the land.”
By the way, did you know The California Coastal Trail runs north of the Sea Ranch, and there is access to the public beaches along the community?

Its visionary team included architect/ developer Al Boeke, landscape architect Lawrence Halprin, and architects Joseph Esherick and Charles Moore. Whenever we have a chance to visit Sea Ranch, we like to add to our collection of . Our videos include clips of our vacation life. Of course, they also include the big beautiful sea that makes up our backyard.
Recently we had a chance encounter with whales breaching while we took a sunset walk along the bluff of Abalone Bay. It’s not a fancy video, but it does show our joy of this chance encounter with nature.

Kronos Quartet was commissioned by the community of The Sea Ranch in celebration of the seaside retreat’s 50th birthday. Composer Aleksandra Vrebalov’s The Sea Ranch Songs connects with the spirit, nature, and architecture of this magical place.
“The Sea Ranch idea on a global scale might be utopian,” Vrebalov writes in her liner notes, “but through music, we praise its beauty and affirm its urgent relevance in our wounded world, so much in need of healing.”
