Explore Sea Ranch Without Leaving Your Couch

Explore Sea Ranch

Explore Sea Ranch frequently tops our guests’  to-do list once settled in at Abalone Bay.  Trail maps, nature guide books, plus architectural history and design books help make that exploration not only fun but also informative.

There is plenty to discover at Sea Ranch. The Sea Ranch community stretches for 10 miles encased by the rugged Sonoma County coastline of the Pacific Ocean at the west. To the east, soaring redwoods cover the hills with grassy meadowlands in-between.  Its architecturally iconic homes embedded in this natural setting resemble a connect-the-dot puzzle.  Private streets and secret passageways along the trails link the homes together into a quiet Zenful community that guests and residents alike love to explore. In spite of The Sea Ranch being a private community, there are public access points for everyone to enjoy exploring.

Unfortunately, our homebound existence restricts us from visiting and exploring The Sea Ranch for now. For that reason, I have gathered a few ways that you can enjoy The Sea Ranch from the comfort and safety of home.

What is a Vacation at Sea Ranch Like?

It’s important to realize at the time of this post’s publication Sea Ranch Abalone Bay or any other vacation rental for that matter is unavailable to book. Nonetheless, I suggest you sit back and vacation vicariously through our playlist Time for a vacation. Furthermore, as you watch be sure to note things you want to do for your next vacation at Sea Ranch.

Day and Weekend Trips

Many of the videos show North Bay Area of Californians enjoying a short trip to The Sea Ranch for an ideal 3-day vacation.  Sonoma County recommends you rent a vacation home.  Your vacation rental booking entitles you to the use of the community’s tennis courts, to say nothing of the 50 miles of private trails that wind through towering redwood trees, offer panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, massive rocks, migrating whales, amazing sunsets, and more.

Points of Interest

For a view of the many points of interest in The Sea Ranch visit our Pinterest Board of the same name.

There’s also our Scottish-style Sea Ranch Golf Course.

Hikers enjoy exploring the 50 miles of private trails while the general public may access public trails available to them or visit the 195-acre Gualala Point Regional Park. Or just spend a quiet moment of The Sea Ranch Chapel, a whimsical architectural gem that some say resembles a wizard’s hat, a bird in flight, or a cresting wave.

Celebrate

Most of us were not able to vacation at The Sea Ranch for spring break this year. Wedding plans and birthday plans will need to be set aside until later in the year if not postponed until the year. Hopefully, by that time the Sea Ranch Lodge will be opened. In the meantime view past weddings at the lodge.

Browse our Holidays and Seasonal Joys Pinterest Board to plan for your next celebration once we can safely enjoy a vacation.

Wildlife at The Sea Ranch

A diverse population of birds and animals take residence in or migrate to The Sea Ranch. Our Pinterest Board, Birds of Sea Ranch in Pinterest shows a few of them. Watch wildlife at Sea Ranch in our collection of videos.

And of course, there are the harbor seals. Most endearing and worthy of a view is the birthing of the harbor seal pups.

Fishing and Diving

Fishing has always been a favorite activity for our family and friends. In fact, diving for abalone used to be one of the main reasons for staying at Sea Ranch. Two years ago the California Department of Fish and Wildlife closed the harvesting of abalone. Diving for abalone continues to be closed. Yet diving itself is still an activity enjoyed for spearfishing. And now the California Department of Fish and Wildlife has postponed other fishing seasons.  Our Diving and Fishing page provides information for anglers and divers. Additionally, Pinterest Board for Fishing brings back great memories. You may vicariously go fishing while viewing our Angler’s Playlist. For our divers, you’ll enjoy videos of past dive trips here.

Sea Ranch Outdoor Activities

Besides the sporting activities, there are many other activities you can enjoy from your sofa. These include visiting our Flora Pinterest Pinterest board.  We highlight a variety of other Sea Ranch Points of Interest as well.

Social Ways to Enjoy Sea Ranch

Besides Pinterest and videos online, there are a few additional social media portals for virtually escaping to Sea Ranch. Frequently we update our Instagram page with photos by residents and past visitors as well as our own. Next, we recommend The Sea Ranch Vacation Travel Group. Finally, there’s our own Sea Ranch Abalone Bay Facebook Page.

Do you have photos or videos you wish to share here or on our social media resources? Let us know! We’ll be happy to showcase them and share the love of The Sea Ranch.
