Bring Cash!
You’ll find that many of the smaller, locally owned eateries are cash only businesses. Others may accept credit cards if the cost of the purchase will cover their credit card fees. Insider’s Tips In the Time of COVID-19
In collaboration with efforts to keep our community safe and supported during the COVID19 crisis, some restaurants and cafes have now offer pre-paid curbside food pickup. Others have set up a special outdoor eating area and very limited seating with safe space between fellow diners.
As conditions and COVID precautions may change suddenly, we recommend you call ahead to verify if the establishment remains open, what its method of service is (curbside, inside, or outdoor eating experience), if masks are required, or any changes in hours and method of payment.
Be sure to verify the restaurant accepts credit cards. Many smaller cafes and restaurants accept cash or checks only.

Rebecca Stewart Sea Ranch Catering and Cooking Classes
Rebecca holds to traditional preparations and with absorbing passion plays with wonderful expression, emphasizing fresh and seasonal ingredients, showcasing her attention to detail. “Not afraid of flavor” is her mantra. She delights in taking risks with her creations.
Chef Stewart’s life and career have been centered around food, entertaining, and art. She has had the pleasure of working with and gained inspiration from Jacques Pepin, Hugh Carpenter, Perla Meyers, Diane Kennedy, Marzal Hazan and Madhur Jaffrey, among others.
Stewart spent many years in Victoria, British Columbia, where she honed her seafood cooking skills at two locales: Her self-named award-winning restaurant, “Rebecca’s”; where it was named in the best 100 restaurants in Canada ten years running; and The White House Restaurant and Inn, featuring new world comfort food with wonderful in-house preserves, breads, and house-cured charcuterie.
The best part about Rebecca’s cooking is that, for better or worse, she refuses to be bored. Her menus change with the seasons, keeping some favorites but bringing on new dishes and accompaniments depending on what ingredients are best at the time. Chef Stewart’s famous cioppino, a show-stopper of ocean prawns, day boat scallops, shellfish, freshwater prawns, and fresh coastal catch, steamed in a red chili sauce, topped with a Dungeness crab and herb crostini is hard to beat.

Gualala Seafood Shack
Shrimp sandwich Photo credit: Charles Mills
Mendonoma’s newest restaurant (2019) near Sea Ranch is fun, fast, and fresh. Located on the north side of Gualala in the historic Bakertown center, the Gualala Seafood Shack offers the highest quality seafood sourced directly from the ocean.
Its owners, Ross and Susana, of Trinks fame, invite you to experience the true meaning of Ocean to Table dining.
Its décor is minimal. Some may call it “clean”; others call it stark offering communal zinc-topped tables with no cushions on the benches. Guests place their orders and pick them up at the counter. When finished you must bus your own dishes. Note there is nothing soft in the place causing the noise environment to be loud.
Their fish tacos (deep-fried lingcod) are topped with a very tasty sauce, kind of a Thousand Island, not a spicy salsa. Others report the clam chowder is good.
