Did you know that today is National Dog Day?
Every August 26 is a day to take a day a moment to recognize and appreciate the value and importance of dogs in our lives, and to do your part to end homelessness and abuse of dogs the world over. Whether they are offering companionship, keeping us safe, searching for signs of life in disasters, providing support for people with disabilities, dogs have become an essential part of our lives, and this is our opportunity to give something back.
For dog-friendly Abalone Bay honoring our dog guests is something we do everyday. But in special honor of this special day today, we have five awesome ideas for you to use when you and and your furry four-legged family member visits Sea Ranch and the Mendonoma Coastal Area.

5 Ways to Honor Your Dog At Sea Ranch and Mendonoma
We have five great ways to celebrate your dog and others.
#1 Sniff out the scents along the trails
What could be more exciting for you and your dog than to step outside and inhale the breezes perfumed by the perfect swirl of ocean air, meadow flowers, and redwoods? Leash up your pet, slip on a jacket and step out to enjoy the outdoor wonders that can be found. Whether you hike along any of the more than 50 miles of trails in Sea Ranch or explore the parks in Gualala, Salt Point, or Point Arena, you and your pet will relish a day outdoors together.
But Beware of Bugs!

A word of warning though. Be sure you take care to avoid ticks in the area. You’ll want to consult your vet about tick and flea prevention. And when you return back from your jaunt, be sure to check for ticks on not only your dog, but also on you! Look here for more tips on checking you dog after a walk in Sea Ranch.
#2 Hang out at The Sea Ranch Dog Park
What could be more fun then to run with wild abandon in a large spacious park made just for the dogs staying at Sea Ranch? The Sea Ranch offers the perfect and safe spot for your dog to run, sniff and socialize. And for you too!
To get to the park from Highway One, turn east on Deer Trail (Mile Marker 56.88) and drive a short distance to the first rock driveway on the right and park within the fenced in area. Take the walking path east to the dog park.
#3 Celebrate with a Cookie- for Both of You

A delicious way to celebrate your pooch today or any day is with a yummy cookie made fresh by Two Fish Baking Company located in The Sea Ranch and Stewarts Point Store. And don’t forget to pick up one of their people cookies, bread, sandwiches, and pizza too!
#4 Explore Wineries Together
While staying in Sea Ranch you are wonderfully situated to visit local wineries and micro-breweries that are dog welcoming as well.
Below are links that provide a listing of dog friendly wineries and breweries you’ll want to try out while in Mendonoma.

#5 Find Your Forever Friend

A great way celebrate National Dog Day is to visit Redwood Coast Humane Society. Here you’ll be able to find your forever friend. Located in Gualala, The Redwood Coast Humane Society (RCHS) begun in 1987. It started with a small number of coast residents concerned about the overpopulation of feral cats, and the treatment of unwanted dogs and cats found in the Mendocino Coast. Today the RCHS includes the coastal area from Elk at the north end to Timber Cove in the south.
