Our great American tradition of Thanksgiving holiday….
Has given way to crazy consumerism at the stroke of midnight the following day – Black Friday.
Start a new tradition for Black Friday – Take a walk in the redwoods!
This year let the shopping – and the leftovers – wait and save your money!
Instead enjoy what Thanksgiving is really about- sharing time with family and appreciating our many shared blessings. California’s redwood parks are uniquely suited for both.

That’s the best bargain you’re going to find this Black Friday!
Simply download a pass and present it at the park.
Thanks to a generous private donation by a San Francisco nonprofit dedicated to saving redwood trees, now everyone can get out and enjoy the parks. As of Wednesday, the league had issued 77 free park passes.
“We are starting a new tradition for Black Friday,” Save the Redwoods League president Sam Hodder said. “We invite everyone to experience the moments of joy, renewal and inspiration that you’ll find among our natural wonders, the ancient giant redwoods.”
Inspiration came from REI who took the bold plunge by advocating that people hike on the day after Thanksgiving. Notably, Save the Redwoods is supporting that idea. Also REI is paying all its employees to take the day off and get outdoors.
REI is asking that people hop on social media to share what outdoor adventures they’re having by using the hashtag #OptOutside.
The Redwoods League wants people to do the same by using the hashtag #OptOutsideIntoTheRedwoods. So get out there and start sharing with your social media friends and fans.
California has the largest state park system in the United States. Minnesota state parks also are offering the same deal at 76 of its parks.

So come take a hike this Black Friday!
